What is a Floating License ?
A way to use a simulator without having to have the "dongle" on each local computer.
*The dongle is put on a designated "server" on your network, it permits 1-100 users (depending on your licenses) to start simulation sessions anywhere else on the network.
- special software modules are installed on the server, and on any computer running the simulator.
- This is a "server" version of the software protection, not of the simulator itself - the simulation software still needs to be installed on each local computer
- This means "buy once, run anywhere", and is particularly useful for users with installations on the same site.
- Each Floating License is delivered with a limited validity-this helps protect against loss.
The number of licenses covered by the support contracts determines the number of users covered by the Floating License.
Ex. Support contract for 3 simulator licenses = Floating license for 3 users.
What are the Benefits from the Floating License ?
* Multiple workstations can use the simulator
- At the same time if the license permits multiple users
- At different times if the license only permits one user
- The dongle can be put in a protected environment (will not "walk away")
- Very important for schools
- Very useful for production environments, especially
if the simulation equipment is not in constant use, or is being moved.
Which Simulators can use the Floating License ?
- Any "stand-alone" simulator with a full user license (when connected to the server)
- The Floating License is not available for Light or Demo versions.
- The Floating License is not functional for console-integrated simulators which have special architectures.
What are the costs for a Floating License ?
- In order to buy a Floating license a 3 year support contract is required
- Support Contract costs are different for different simulators.
- Valid support contracts cover insurance for the floating license dongle loss (see what happens
if I lose a Floating License dongle section).
- Ongoing Costs
- $250 to
change the number of users/software licenses.
- Note: floating license is standard for educational institutions, which generally have more than one simulator license active on the same site.
What happens if I lose a Floating License dongle ?
Since the license protects a lot of expensive software, the replacement value of the dongle is equivalent to the total value of the software. This can run into a lot of money.
IF you have a valid support contract :
1. You have to inform us of the loss or theft of the dongle on company letterhead signed by the president
2. The first time you lose the dongle, you will get a replacement dongle at no charge. You will pay 50% of the total value of the software the second time you lose it and 100% thereafter.
